WILLIAM RILEY “BILL” GENTRY

William Riley ”Bill” Gentry Jr., 85, of Bardstown, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at his home. He was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Brandenburg. He was a retired self-employed attorney. He was a graduate of Randolph Macon High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Bardstown Kiwanis Club, and served as chairman of the Nelson County Democratic Party.

He was a two-term state senator, and served Nelson, Washington, Marion, Bullitt and Spencer counties. He later served as a member of the Kentucky Public Service Commission. He loved playing the trumpet in numerous bands over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge William R. and Mildred Bondurant Gentry Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Shannon Thomas Gentry; one daughter, Lynn (Tom) Hamilton of Bardstown; two sons, William R. (Karen) Gentry IV of Bardstown and Lewis (Ingrid) Gentry of Louisville; one sister, Alice Williams of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
