Obituary: Charles Matthew Phillips, 75, Bardstown
Charles Matthew Phillips, 75, of Bardstown, died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at his home. He was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Bardstown. He was retired from General Electric and Kroger. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church where he served as an eucharistic minister, choir member and lector.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rae Laverne Phillips; one son, Charles Terrance “Terry” Phillips; his father and stepmother, George and Elizabeth Phillips; his stepfather and mother, Gus and Mary Elizabeth Douglas; a twin brother, James Louis Phillips; and father-in-law, Dan Firman.
He is survived by three two daughters, Candy (David) Lewis of Bloomfield and Donna (Barry) Lewis of Bardstown; one son, Bobby (Alice) Phillips of Nicholasville; two sisters, Barbara Edwards of Oakland, California, and Renee (Ron) Turner of Bardstown; his mother-in-law, Naomi Firman of Bardstown; five sisters-in-law, Josephine Phillips of Bardstown, Donna Faye (Sonny) Greathouse, Ann (John) Payne, and Connie (Ronnie “Wiener”) Ford, all of Bardstown, and Lillian (Barry) Smallwood of Lexington; three grandchildren, Terrance Lewis, Amber Lewis, and Raeann Lewis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at St. Monica Catholic Church with burial in the St. Joseph cemetery. The Rev. Tom Clark and the Rev. Jeff Hopper will officiate.
Visitation is 3–8 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, and 9–10:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown is in charge of arrangements.
