Thursday, June 26, 2014, 4:40 p.m. — Republican Party Chairman Robert Augustine has filed to run for a seat on the Bardstown City Council.
“My wife and I made a joint decision earlier this week that I should run for Bardstown City Council,” Augustine wrote in an email to the Nelson County Gazette.
“This campaign will not be centered around one specific issue, and no single issue led us to my decision to run,” Augustine stated. “We feel that for our system of government to continue to work, ordinary people should be willing to serve, and voters should be offered choices.
Augustine was elected chairman of the Nelson County Republican Party in March 2012. He told the Nelson County Gazette he plans to remain chairman since the race is a non-partisan one.
“Our campaign will be positive, focused on making solid decisions and working together to best represent the people of Bardstown.”
The races for mayor and city council are non-partisan races. The deadline to file is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014.
