Obituary: Samuel Augustine ‘Sam’ Willett, 88, Loretto
Samuel Augustine “Sam” Willett, 88, of Loretto, died July 11, 2014, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. He was born April 6, 1926 in Nelson County. He was a retired employee of Seagram’s Distillery in Bardstown and an Army Veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel A. and Lottie Watson Willett; two sisters, Alice Hagan and Leona Culver; and five brothers, Richard Willett, Joe Willett, Louis Willett, George Willett and Woodrow Willett.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Catherine Hutchins Willett; one daughter, Lonna Willett Hardin (Roy Duke “Charlie”) of Loretto; one son, Sammy J. Willett of Louisville; three grandchildren, Billy Hardin, Troy Hardin (Melissa) and Chad Hardin, all of Loretto; and six great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52 in St. Francis. The Rev. Bill Bowling is the celebrant. Burial will follow in Lebanon National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 p.m. by Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
