Obituary: Rev. Kenneth “Ken” Sparkman, 84, of Boston
Rev. Kenneth “Ken” Sparkman, 84, of Boston, died Monday July 14, 2014, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born May 9, 1930, in Richard City, Tenn. He was a retired Baptist minister in Kentucky and Tennessee with 66 years of service. He was director of missions for two associations in Tennessee for 35 years, executive board member of Tennessee Baptist Convention, board member of Baptist Adult Homes, a member of Masonic Lodge, and a member of Lick Creek Baptist Church in Linden, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Callie Sparkman; one sister, Anna Bartlett; and one brother, David Sparkman.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Dones Sparkman of Boston;
one daughter, Christie Sparkman (Patrick) Kennedy of Arlington, Tenn.; three sons, Marshall (Ruth Ann) Sparkman of Union City, Tenn., Donald K. Sparkman of Atlanta, Dr. Keith B. Sparkman of Chattanooga, Tenn; one sister, Elaine (Charles) McAfee; four grandchildren, Matthew Sparkman, Amy Sparkman, Alex Clenney, and Cade Clenney; two great-grandchildren, Braydon Hendrix, and Landon Hendrix; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Barlow Funeral Home with burial in the Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery. Dr. Kenny Cooper will officiate.
Visitation is 4–8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, and 9–11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may go to the Boston Community Center or the Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
