Results of the 5th Annual Nelson County Fair Public Speaking, Talent Contests

Monday, July 14, 2014 — The fifth annual Nelson County Fair Public Speaking and Talent Contests were held Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Nelson County Civic Center in Bardstown. Prizes for this event were provided by the Nelson County Fair Board awarding passes to the 2014 Fair, the Nelson County Farm Bureau (NCFB) sponsored more than $900 in prizes, the Chapter FFA Clubs awarded certificates and the Nelson County 4-H Extension awarded Champion and Blue Ribbons.

NCFAIRJan Ballard, president of the Bardstown Chamber of Commerce, was master of ceremonies. Ballard introduced seven talent contestants and three public speakers.

The Open Show Talent $100 Winner was Alexis Raisor and the $50 Runner-up was Ricky Helton. NCFB Talent show winner was Ricky Helton winning $100 and Runner up was Lauren Miles winning $50. Open show and NCFB Female Public Speaker Winner was Rachel Young with combined winnings of $200. Runner-up in both categories was Ashley Hardin with combined winnings of $100. Open show and NCFB Male Public Speaker Winner was Kyle Schenck with combined winnings of $200 and was the only competitor in this category.

Next Nelson County 4-H Extension Specialist Danielle Hutchins awarded the Champion (Purple) ribbons to Talent Show 4-H participant Alexis Raisor and Female Public Speaker 4-H participant Rachael Young. Blue Ribbons were awarded to 4-Hers Ricky Helton, Aydon Livers, Grayson Livers, and Layten Livers. FFA Chapter Alumni Anita Schenck next awarded Chapter FFA certificates to Rachel Young, Ashley Hardin and Kyle Schenck.

The Nelson County Farm Bureau Outstanding Youth and Variety Show Contests were held with the help of NCFB Secretary Nancy Miller, Geraldine Flaugher, Jean Jury, Elaine Roche, Anita Schenck and Sarah Wheatley. A special gratitude goes to 4-H Extension Specialist Danielle Hutchins for her behind-the-scenes help throughout the planning of these contests.

The purpose of the talent contest is to recognize young people and give them an opportunity to perform before audiences to gain valuable experience in the talent and entertainment field. The purpose of the speaking contests is to promote youth involvement in county activities and to recognize leadership, achievements and awards in their schools and communities.
