Obituary: Mary Elizabeth ‘Toodie’ Cheek, 96, Cox’s Creek
Mary Elizabeth “Toodie” Cheek, 96, of Cox’s Creek, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Bardstown. She was the former Mary Elizabeth Brookshire and was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Spencer County. She was the former owner/operator of Superior Grocery and a member of the Cox’s Creek Baptist Church and the Taylorsville Chapter of the Order of The Eastern Star. She was the daughter of the late Francis Aubrey and Tina Jewell Brookshire.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Cheek; and one sister, Lena Kimbler.
She is survived by three sons, Larry H. (Anna Ruth) Cheek, Ronald W. (Lora) Cheek, both of Taylorsville, and Warren (Donna) Cheek of Cox’s Creek; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Bratcher officiating. Burial is in the Highland Memory Garden in Mount Washington.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, and 8:30-11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Cox’s Creek Baptist Church.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
