Obituary: David Coleman ‘Benji’ Benningfield, 59, Culvertown
David Coleman “Benji” Benningfield, 59, of Culvertown, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at his home. He was born Sept. 23, 1954, in Finley. He was a former employee of Austin Powder Company in Willisburg and CSX Railroad in Louisville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary Lila Mattingly Benningfield, his stepfather, Francis S. “Bennie” Mattingly; four brothers, Charles Benningfield, Bobby Nalley, Elmer Mattingly and Lawrence Mattingly.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Brenda Morris Benningfield; two sons, Troy Benningfield (Penny) of Culvertown and Jarrod Benningfield (Jill) of Boston; one sister, Bernice Reynolds of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren, Dakota, Hannah, Cade, Braxton, Alex, Bristol and Finley; one stepsister, Grace Smith (John) of Bardstown; and all the Morris family members.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church St., New Hope, with cremation to follow. The Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 PM by the Rev. Deacon Jim Cecil.
The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
