Bardstown fire called for active alarm at Bardstown Methodist

fireshieldSunday, July 27, 2014, 2 a.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department was called to The Bardstown United Methodist Church, 116 East Flaget, for an active fire alarm at 1:17 Sunday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through Nelson County. Firefighters checked over the church complex but where unable to get inside the building. After a visual inspection from outside, the firefighters cleared the scene after about 25 minutes. In May 1998, a lightning strike to the church steeple ignited a fire that burned undetected, eventually gutting the church sanctuary.
