Obituary: Margaret Ann Hummel S.L., 82, Nerinx
Margaret Ann Hummel S.L., 82, of Nerinx, died Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary.
She was born March 17, 1932, in Louisville to the late Margaret Maloney and Norbert Daniel Hummel Sr. She entered religious life in 1955 with the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy in Charleston, S.C. She received her final vows in 1959 and served as a classroom teacher and superior general. She transferred her vows to the Sisters of Loretto in 1988 and served as the Loretto community representative on the Project Women Board and she worked on Loretto High and Ursuline college alumnae.
She was preceded in death by her fraternal twin, Rose Thomas.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Jane (Ellen Jane) Hummel, S.L. and Patricia Hummel S.L., both of Nerinx, and Medical Mission Sister Ellen Hummel; and one brother-in-law, Rudy Thomas.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at the Loretto Motherhouse Church, 515 Nerinx Road, Nerinx with burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
A wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at the Motherhouse.
Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
