Man burned Thursday evening when drill creates sparks, ignites fuel

emslogoThursday, July 31, 2014, 10 p.m. — One person was burned in a vehicle fire at a home in the 4000 block of Dixie Lane off Old Nazareth Road Thursday at about 5:38 p.m. The Bardstown Fire Department, Nelson County EMS and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a Dixie Lane home for a report of a man burned when his car caught on fire. The car reportedly had a full tank of gasoline, and neighbors told 911 Dispatch they heard small explosions.

When firefighters arrived, the found the fire contained to just the vehicle and it was extinguished. Firefighters report the victim apparently was drilling a hole and a spark ignited some fuel. EMS transported the male victim from the scene with burns to his chest and arms directly to University Hospital in Louisville. Firefighters were on the scene for about 35 minutes.
