Obituary: Edna Hamilton, 89, of Bardstown
Edna Hamilton, 89, of Bardstown, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Bardstown to Thomas and Mary Edna Edelen Filiatreau.
She was a 1942 graduate of the old Fredericktown High School. She was a loving homemaker and also worked at Spalding & Sons in Bardstown. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was an active member of the Bardstown Ladies Golf Association. She was a volunteer at Flaget Hospital and loved to play golf, card games and bingo at Nazareth Home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alexander “Zan” Hamilton; and one daughter, Harriet Thompson.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellen (Reed) Whitener of Richmond, Va., and Mary (Gary) Massie of Taylor Mill; two sons, Alex (Mary) Hamilton of Louisville and Tom (Lynn) Hamilton of Bardstown; one son-in-law, Timothy (Barbara) Thompson of Louisville; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandson.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer as celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Joseph Church.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
