Nelson Circuit Court Indictments — Aug. 6, 2014
Editor’s Note: The indictment of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 – The following people were indicted by a Nelson County grand jury on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014. They are scheduled for arraignment Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, unless otherwise indicated.
14-CR-177. James E. Lewis, 43, Bloomfield, burglary, third-degree; theft by unlawful taking; persistent felony offender, first-degree.
According to the indictment, between July 20-21, 2014, Lewis is alleged to have unlawfully entered Simply Vapors with the intent to commit a crime and took $6,769.16. Lewis’ prior felony convictions are the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-178. Chris B. Culver, 38, Boston, wanton endangerment, first-degree (3 counts); fleeing and evading police, first-degree (motor vehicle); theft by unlawful taking; persistent felony offender, first-degree.
According to the indictment, on Dec. 15, 2012, Culver allegedly evaded police and operated his vehicle in a reckless manner, endangering officers Reese Riley, Nathan Phillips and Michael Medley who were pursuing him after he took items with a value of more than $500 but less than $10,000 from another person’s vehicle. The indictment cites Culver’s prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-179. Joseph Lee Tinnell, 31, Bardstown, burglary, second-degree and complicity to the same; persistent felony offender, first-degree.
According to the indictment, on May 17, 2014, Tinnell — acting alone or in concert with Scotty Dean Engle — allegedly entered someone’s home with the intent to commit a crime. The indictment cites Tinnell’s prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-180. Jessie Wayne Rogers, 31, Bloomfield, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree (cocaine) and complicity to the same; possession of a controlled substance, first-degree, and complicity to the same; possession of a firearm while committing an offense; possession of a controlled substance, third-degree and complicity to the same; possession of drug paraphernalia and complicity to the same; tampering with physical evidence and complicity to the same; possession of legend drugs and complicity to the same; receiving stolen property – firearm and complicity to the same; possession of marijuana and complicity to the same; cultivating marijuana, fewer than 5 plants, and complicity to the same; receiving stolen property and complicity to the same.
According to the indictment, between July 15 and July 18, 2014, Rogers — acting alone or in concert with Alicia Gayle Browning — was allegedly found in possession of cocaine, several handguns, hydromorphone pills, diazepam pills, cyclobenzaprine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, knowingly cultivated fewer than 5 marijuana plants, knowingly received a stolen two shot .38 Cobra derringer and more than $10,000 worth of various brands of liquor belonging to Bardstown Strong Spirits. The indictment further alleges Rogers — acting alone or in concert with Eric Scott Keeling — seized a vehicle from an impound lot in order to prevent its availability to a police investigation. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-181. Scotty Dean Engle, 39, Louisville, receiving stolen property and complicity to the same; persistent felony offender, first-degree.
According to the indictment, on May 17, 2014, Engle — acting alone or in concert with Joseph Lee Tinnell — received stolen property consisting of a television, costume jewelry and prescription medicine belonging to another person having a value of $500 or more but less than $10,000. The indictment cites Engle’s prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-182. Alicia Gayle Browning, 28, Bloomfield, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree (cocaine) and complicity to the same; possession of a controlled substance, first-degree, and complicity to the same; possession of a firearm while committing an offense; possession of a controlled substance, third-degree and complicity to the same; possession of drug paraphernalia and complicity to the same; possession of legend drugs and complicity to the same; receiving stolen property – firearm – and complicity to the same; possession of marijuana and complicity to the same; cultivating marijuana, fewer than 5 plants, and complicity to the same; receiving stolen property and complicity to the same.

14-CR-183. Kathy Jo Smith, 38, Bardstown, possession of a forged instrument, second-degree (4 counts); knowingly abuse/neglect of an adult by a person (2 counts); unlawful access to a computer, first-degree.
According to the indictment, between April 1 and May 31, 2014, Smith allegedly abused or neglected two adults, fraudulently accessed a computer network, and passed forged checks totaling $847. Bail was set at $20,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-184. Thomas L. Jent, 29, Bardstown, possession of a forged instrument, first-degree; tampering with physical evidence; possession of a controlled substance, second-degree; possession of a controlled substance, third-degree; possession of drug paraphernalia; persistent felony offender, first-degree.
According to the indictment, on July 28, 2014, Jent allegedly possessed several forged $100 bills, hydrocodone pills, clonazepam pills and drug paraphernalia. When Jent believed an official proceeding was pending, he allegedly tried to hide pills in a cigarette pack underneath the car seat. The indictment cites Jent’s prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-185. Kathy J0 Smith, 38, Bardstown, possession of a forged instrument, second-degree; knowingly abuse/neglect of an adult by a person.
According to the indictment, on June 11, 2014, Smith allegedly exploited an adult person and presented a forged check in the amount of $1,000 at Wilson & Muir Bank. Bail was set at $20,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-186. Eric Scott Keeling, 34, Bloomfield, tampering with physical evidence and complicity to the same; persistent felony offender, first-degree.
According to the indictment, between July 15 and July 18, 2014, Keeling — acting alone or in concert with Jessie Wayne Rogers — allegedly seized a vehicle at the impound lot with the intent to impair its availability in an official proceeding. The indictment cites Keeling’s prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-187. Lindsey L. Welch, 29, Bardstown, receiving stolen property; burglary, second-degree.
According to the indictment, on June 29, 2014, Welch allegedly entered a residence with the intent to commit a crime, and received or disposed of an item belonging to another person having a value of $500 or more but less than $10,000. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-188. Mykel G. Thomas, 27, New Haven, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree (methamphetamine) and complicity to the same; trafficking in controlled substances, first-degree, and complicity to the same; trafficking in marijuana and complicity to the same; possession of drug paraphernalia and complicity to the same; possession of marijuana; violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO; possession of a firearm while committing an offense.
According to the indictment, between July 15 and July 18, 2014, Thomas — acting alone or in concert with Jessie Wayne Rogers — was allegedly found in possession of marijuana, cultivated fewer than 5 marijuana plants, and received or disposed of various brand of liquor belonging to Bardstown Strong Spirits with a value of $10,000 or more. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-189. James C. Hahn III, 28, Bardstown, receiving stolen property and complicity to the same.
According to the indictment, on June 29, 2014, Hahn — acting alone or in concert with Lindsey Welch — allegedly received, or disposed of items belonging to another person having a value of $500 or more but less than $10,000. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-190. Amber M. Sellinger, 28, New Haven, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree (methamphetamine) and complicity to the same; trafficking in controlled substances, first-degree, and complicity to the same; possession of legend drugs; possession of a prescription not in the proper container; possession of a firearm while committing an offense.
According to the indictment, on March 21, 2014, Sellinger — acting alone or in concert with Mykel G. Thomas — was found in possession of generic Suboxin, a prescription not in the proper container, less than 2 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to sell or transfer it, and several firearms while committing the offenses. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-191. Richard E. Conner, 43, Bardstown, flagrant non-support.
According to the indictment, from Oct. 2007 through May 13, 2014, Conner allegedly failed to pay support he was ordered to pay, resulting in an arrearage of $8,329.59. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-192. Mitchell L. Hensley, 27, New Haven, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree (methamphetamine) and complicity to the same; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of a defaced firearm; persistent felony offender, second-degree.
According to the indictment, on March 21, 2014, Hensley — acting alone or in concert with Mykel G. Thomas — possessed methamphetamine. The indictment further alleges Hensley was in possession of a Rossi 20-gauge shotgun and a sawed off Braztech 20-gauge shotgun. The indictment cites Hensley’s prior felony conviction as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $9,500 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-193. Richard E. Conner, 43, Bardstown, flagrant non-support.
According to the indictment, between April 25, 2003 and May 13, 2014, Conner allegedly failed to pay support he was ordered to pay, resulting in an arrearage of $14,041.44. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-194. Michael Bishop, 31, Springfield, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree (methamphetamine); trafficking in controlled substances, first-degree; possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the indictment, on July 30, 2014, Bishop allegedly possessed drug paraphernalia, and 2 or more grams of methamphetamine with the intent to sell or transfer it. Bail was set at $20,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-195. Richard E. Conner, 43, Bardstown, flagrant non-support.
According to the indictment, between April 25, 2003 and May 13, 2014, Conner allegedly failed to pay support he was ordered to pay, resulting in an arrearage of $10,077.37. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-196. Harold Baker Jr., 21, Bardstown, fleeing and evading police, first-degree (2 counts); wanton endangerment, first-degree (9 counts); wanton endangerment, first-degree; disregarding stop sign; disregarding traffic control device; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc.; resisting arrest; operating a motor vehicle while license is suspended; possession of an open alcohol beverage container in a vehicle.
According to the indictment, on May 23, 2014, Baker allegedly attempt to flee or elude police, creating substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to eight police officers, and in the process ran a stop sign and red light while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc. The indictment further alleges Baker was driving on a suspended license, possessed an open alcohol beverage container in his motor vehicle, and resisted arrested. Bail was set at $9,500 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-197. Anthony L. Johnson, 42, New Haven, trafficking in controlled substances, first-degree (less than 2 grams methamphetamine); possession of drug paraphernalia; trafficking in controlled substances, first-degree (less than 4 grams cocaine); possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the indictment, on Feb. 24, 2014, Johnson allegedly sold less than 2 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant while in possession of drug paraphernalia. On March 3, 2014, Johnson allegedly sold less than four grams of cocaine to a confidential informant while in possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.
14-CR-198. Donald Carey Jr., 29, Bloomfield, burglary, second-degree; forgery, second-degree.
According to the indictment, on April 29, 2014, Carey allegedly entered another person’s residence with the intent to commit a crime, and falsely altered or completed a check drawn on the account of another person. Bail was set at $9,500 cash only, plus conditions.
