Obituary: Joe C. Holcomb, 84, Boston
Joe C. Holcomb, 84, of Boston, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Garrard County. He was a retired assistant principal with the Bullitt County Board of Education and was retired from National Agricultural Statistics Service. He was the first head football coach of Bullitt Central High School and the former head basketball coach and assistant football coach of Old Kentucky Home High School. He was former head basketball coach of St. Catharine College, a member of National Education Association and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Bryantsville Methodist Church in Bryantsville.
He was preceded in death by his father, B.H. Holcomb; his mother, Sallye Hamm Holcomb; and one brother, George Holcomb.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Jean Estes Holcomb of Boston;
two daughters, Lisa Holcomb (Bobby Joe Reiter) Peebles of New Haven and Amy (John Peake) Tracy of Lebanon Junction; one son, Mike (Debbie) Holcomb of Jackson; one sister, Hazel (Earl) Shaw of Danville; three grandchildren, Lori (Tim) Hogg, Zachary (Kelly) Peebles, and Morgan Bradley; and one great-grandson, Caden Hogg.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Barlow Funeral Home with burial in the Lancaster Cemetery in Lancaster. Brother Ron Lewis will officiate.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, and 9-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may go to student aid for University of Cumberlands College, or to the American Cancer Society.
