Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, 12:30 p.m. — Quick action to report a stolen car Monday morning led to the recovery of the handcuffsnovvehicle and arrest of the thief in less than an hour after the incident was reported.

At about 10:50 a.m. Monday, Nelson County Dispatch received a call from the owner of a grey 2004 Chrysler Sebring that had been sitting in front of a residence in the 100 block of East Flaget Avenue. The owner told dispatchers he saw a man he did not know get into his car and drive away. The owner said the keys were inside in the vehicle.

Area police departments were alerted to the theft, but the first law enforcement to spot the stolen car was a Bloomfield Police officer who told dispatchers he was behind the car on Fairfield Hill Road at 11:10 a.m. The officer stopped the vehicle at the entrance to the Bloomfield City Park and the driver attempted to flee. The officer caught the suspect and detained him.

The driver told officers the car was a rental; however the license plate confirmed it was the car reported stolen 20 minutes earlier. Bardstown Police transported the vehicle’s rightful owner to Bloomfield to retrieve the car. The driver, a Louisville man, was arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
