Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, 11 p.m. — A slow cooker that was left on was the cause of smoke that filled a downtown Bardstown restaurant Monday night, prompting the temporary evacuation of a second-floor apartment and a response by the Bardstown Fire Department. At about 9:34 p.m., Nelson County Dispatch received a report of heavy smoke in Pat’s Place Restaurant, 125 North Third St., from the resident of the apartment above the restaurant. Bardstown Police and the firefighters were dispatched to scene and confirmed the restaurant was filled with smoke.

The apartment was evacuated while firefighters investigated the source of the smoke, which turned out to be a slow cooker that had been left on. Firefighters used their equipment to remove smoke from the building and were on the scene for about an hour. No one was injured in the incident.

There was no damage to the restaurant or the building, and Pat’s Place opened the next day on its regular schedule.
