Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, 9 p.m.  — The Raleigh, N.C.-based polling firm, Public Policy Polling, was ringing telephones Public_Policy_Polling_logoacross Nelson County this weekend with surveys focused on the 50th District race for state representative.

The survey asked a couple of questions about political party affiliation, political identity, as well as a couple of questions regarding the McConnell-Grimes U.S. Senate race. The survey then spent the balance of its questions focused largely on the 50th District state representative’s race featuring incumbent Rep. David Floyd and Democratic challenger Audrey Haydon.

The survey asked about opinions of the candidates and who the listener would likely vote for if the election was today. The survey offered a series of policy positions — from Kentucky’s implementation of Obamacare to education — and asked if how those issues would affect the respondents’ opinion of Haydon as a candidate.

The survey also listed a variety of criticisms of Floyd, and asked how those would affect the respondents’ thoughts of supporting Floyd in the November election.

The Gazette received its survey call from a number listed as “Anonymous” at about 8 p.m. Sunday evening. The entire call lasted about seven minutes.

At the end of the phone call, the survey identifies the polling company as Public Policy Polling and suggests sending questions to www.publicpolicypolling.com.
