The council approved a Design Review Board recommendation for a 9,100 square-foot retail building that is proposed for Cathedral Manor adjacent to the old Southern States property.

The council also approved a Design Review Board recommendation for a 6,000 square-foot building on Filiatreau Lane that will be an office building for BCD Construction.

CEMETERY CHANGES. The council approved recommendations to revise the city cemetery rules regarding grass areas around grave markers. Guthrie Drive resident James Keith Rogers told the council that police officers are rolling through the stop signs at the intersection of Guthrie Drive and Honeysuckle.

— listened to a complaint from James Keith Rogers, a Guthrie Drive resident who said police officers are failing to stop for the stop signs at the intersection of Guthrie and Honeysuckle and are exceeding the posted speed limit on Guthrie. Rogers said he had been stopped by a police officer recently and warned about his own rolling stops, and told the council police officers should follow the same law. Assistant Chief Major Ray Lewis told the council he would write a memo to the department regarding speed and rolling stops.

— approved updates to the city’s Chapter 95 Fire Prevention and Chapter 31 Mayor Amendment ordinances;

— approved a request to close Xavier Drive from 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 through noon Sunday, Sept. 7, for the 2014 Old Kentucky Home bicycle tour;

— approved a request for the White Castle Cravemobile to operate on the grounds of American Legion Post 121 during the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, Sept. 19 and 20. The property isn’t property zoned to conform with the city’s mobile food vendor ordinance; however Mayor Bill Sheckles said since the city owns the property, it could declare it a public place suitable for mobile food vending;

— approved final reading on a request to rezone 219.93 acres in the Nelson County Industrial Park from its existing zoning to an I-2 Heavy Industrial classification.

NEXT UP. The council will meet next at its working session at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.
