Obituary: Clarence Roberts ‘Bobby’ Johnson Jr., 71, New Haven
Clarence Roberts “Bobby” Johnson Jr., 71, of New Haven, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital.
He was born and raised in New Haven by the late Clarence Roberts Johnson Sr. and Mary Finetta Hayden Johnson. He was a Catholic by faith and a member of the St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church. He served his community well and was currently serving as mayor of the City of New Haven. He retired as New Haven police chief of New Haven after 19 years of service. He served on the New Haven City Commission and was a retired firefighter for New Haven and Rolling Fork fire departments. He was an EMT, a school bus driver, and a member of the New Haven Optimist Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Marie Johnson; and three brothers, Nick Johnson Sr., Joe Hayden Johnson, and Chris Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Guyula Boone Johnson; four daughters, Michelle Brown (David) of Hodgenville, Shawn Ballard (Jeff) of Bardstown, and Kim Maupin (Jerry) and Nicole Pinkston (Randy), both of New Haven; two sisters, Karen Downs (David) of Bardstown and Mary Dean Beyke (Jim) of Central City; three brothers, Phil Johnson (Margaret) and Jack Johnson (Carol), both of Bardstown and Kevin Johnson (Marie) of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren, Kaelyn McDowell (Brandon), Danielle Brown, Ivy Brown, Presley Brown, Morgan Gerage (Ryan), Shelby Maupin, Braden Maupin, Cole Ballard, Connor Ballard, Sara Ballard and Mattie Mae Pinkston; three great-grandchildren, Owen McDowell, Kampbell McDowell and Sawyer Gerage; his stepmother, Sister Jean Johnson of Loretto; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and the extended Boone Family.
The funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014,at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Troy Overton officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
