Obituary: Julia Catherine Vittitow Atchison, 90, of Bardstown, formerly of New Haven

Julia Catherine Vittitow Atchison, 90, of Bardstown, formerly of New Haven, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Flaget fun_angelMemorial Hospital in Bardstown. She was born May 4, 1924, in New Haven. She was the daughter of the late Orville Leake and Catherine Frances Slater Vittitow. She was the retired operator of Towne & Country Antiques and was an antique appraiser in Bardstown after many years of operation. She owned and operated Maureen’s Dress Shop, New Haven Dry Goods, Federal Hill Nursing Home in Bardstown, Loving Care Rest Home and Haven Motel. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville Vittitow and Charles W. Vittitow.

Survivors include one daughter, Maureen Harvey of Cox’s Creek; two sons, Raymond Carothers and Steve Carothers, both of Bardstown; three sisters, Rosanne Bowling of Louisville, Mary W. Parman of Patuskula, Ohio and Dorothy Toney of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Harry S. Vittitow of New Haven and Joseph H. Vittitow of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral is 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at Abundant Life Church on Bloomfield Road in Bardstown.

Visitation is 11 a.m – 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at the church.

The William R. Rust Funeral Home in New Haven is in charge of arrangements.
