Nelson Circuit Court Indictments — Sept. 17, 2014

Editor’s Note: The indictment of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

indictmentThursday, Sept. 4, 2014 – The following people were indicted by a Nelson County grand jury on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014. They are scheduled for arraignment Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, unless otherwise indicated.

14-CR-218. Wilma Ingram, 72, Bardstown, arson, third-degree.

According to the indictment, on July 31, 2014, Ingram allegedly started a fire in a mobile home on Stinson Drive. Bail will be set at her arraignment on Oct. 2, 2014.

14-CR-219. Russell D. Jeffires, 29, New Haven, receiving stolen property under $10,000; persistent felony offender, first-degree.

According to the indictment, sometime between Aug. 9-12, Jeffires allegedly received, retained or disposed of a Raptor Hustler lawnmower having a value of less than $10,000 belonging to Joe Hill’s knowing it was stolen. The indictment cites his previous felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-220. Pamela Rhodes, 47, Bardstown, assault, second-degree.

According to the indictment, on June 12, 2014, Rhodes allegedly stabbed another person in the face, hand, arm and shoulder areas with a butcher knife. Bail was set at $9,500 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-221. Scotty Lee Johnson, 39, Bardstown, receiving stolen property under $10,000; persistent felony offender, first-degree.

According to the indictment, between Aug. 28-Sept. 2, 2014, Johnson allegedly received, retained or disposed of an air compressor belonging to Rayfield Houghlin having a value of less than $10,000; a 2004 TRX 400 ATV belonging to Ken Bright with a value of less than $10,000; and a Yamaha Bruin ATV belonging to Marshall Tingle having a value of less than $10,000, knowing the items were stolen. Johnson’s prior felony convictions are the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-222. Sirredward M. Green, 31, Louisville, theft by unlawful taking.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 18, 2014, Green allegedly took a 2004 Chrysler Sebring belonging to another person having a value of more than $500 but less than $10,000. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-223. Russell D. Jeffires, 29, New Haven, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, $500 or more but less than $10,000; criminal mischief, third-degree; persistent felony offender, third-degree.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 10, 2014, Jeffires allegedly took a black utility trailer belonging to Richard Johnson having a value of more than $500 but less than $10,000, causing damage of less than $500. The indictment cites Jeffires’ prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-224. Charlene Walter, 46, Bardstown, criminal abuse, first-degree.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 6, 2014, Walter allegedly abused a minor child 12 years of age or younger. Bail was set at $9,500 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-225. Russell D. Jeffires, 29, New Haven, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, $500 or more but less than $10,000; persistent felony offender, third-degree.

According to the indictment, on July 17, 2014, Jeffires allegedly took a 2015 ZTHD Kohler Pro riding mower from Pat’s Appliance having a value of $500 or more but less than $10,000. The indictment cites Jeffires’ prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-226. Gary Harris, 49, Bardstown, assault, second-degree; unlawful imprisonment, first-degree.

According to the indictment, between March 14-16, 2009, Harris allegedly struck a female with a broom hand with a hook in it and his fists, causing multiple bruises and cuts all over her body while restraining her and not allowing her to leave the residence. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-227. Russell D. Jeffires,29, New Haven, receiving stolen property, $10,000 or more; persistent felony offender, third-degree.

According to the indictment, sometime between Aug. 8-20, 2014, Jeffires allegedly receiving, retained or disposed of 60-inch Hustler riding mower belonging to Joe Hill’s knowing it was stolen and having a value of $10,000 or more. The indictment cites Jeffires’ prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-228. Jeremy W. Pearson, 36, Shelby, Ala., flagrant non-support.

According to the indictment, between Jan. 1, 2006 and Aug. 27, 2014, Pearson allegedly failed to pay support he knew he was ordered to pay, resulting in an arrearage of $9,125.44. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-229. Russell D. Jeffires, 29, New Haven, receiving stolen property under $10,000; persistent felony offender, third-degree.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 8, 2014, Jeffires allegedly receiving, retained or disposed of a 6×10 assisted lift gate and bent jack trailer belonging to Blaine Hamilton knowing it was stolen and having a value of less than $10,000. The indictment cites Jeffires’ prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-231. Russell D. Jeffires, 29, New Haven, receiving stolen property, under $10,000; persistent felony offender, first-degree.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 15, 2014, Jeffires allegedly receiving, retained or disposed of a utility trailer belonging to Joseph Miles knowing it was stolen and having a value of less than $10,000. The indictment cites Jeffires’ prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-233. Russell D. Jeffires,29, New Haven, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, all others, $500 or more but under $10,000; persistent felony offender, first-degree.

According to the indictment, sometime between Aug. 12-13, 2014, Jeffires allegedly took an 18-foot tandem axle utility trailer belonging to Jack Hurst having a value of $500 or more but less than $10,000. The indictment cites Jeffires’ prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-235. Joseph D. Wade, 36, Bardstown, burglary, first-degree; theft by unlawful taking/disposition-firearm (4 counts); theft by unlawful taking or disposition, $500 or more but under $10,000; criminal mischief, third-degree.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 28, 2014, Wade allegedly caused more than $500 damage when he unlawfully entered a home on Chaplin Road with the intent to commit a crime, taking a Remington Model 522 Viper .22 rifle; two Marlin .22s; a Stevens 12-gauge shotgun; an air conditions, TV, jump box and other items having a total value of $500 or more but less than $10,000. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-237. James Steven Scrogham, 34, Bardstown, promoting contraband, first-degree.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 6, 2014, Scrogham allegedly hid two packages of suboxone in his underwear and took them into the Nelson County Jail. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-239. William R. Culver, 49, Bloomfield, trafficking in controlled substances, first-degree.

According to the indictment, on July 8, 2014, Culver allegedly possession four or more grams cocaine with the intent to sell it. Bail was set at $9,500 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-241. Russell D. Jeffires, 29, New Haven, burglary, third-degree (3 counts); persistent felony offender, first-degree.

According to the indictment, sometime between July 17-Aug. 15, 2014, Jeffires allegedly unlawfully entered Joe Hill’s with the intent to commit a crime. The indictment cites Jeffires’ prior felony convictions as the basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-243. Trevor McKenzie Walls, 24, Bardstown, sodomy, first-degree (victim under 12 years of age); persistent felony offender, first-degree.

According to the indictment, between Jan. 1, 2012 and Aug. 25, 2014, Walls allegedly engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with another person under 12 years of age. The indictment cites Walls’ prior felony convictions as basis for the persistent felony offender charge. Bail was set at $250,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-245. Joseph D. Wade, 36, Bardstown, receiving stolen property; possession of controlled substances, first-degree (methamphetamine); possession of drug paraphernalia; resisting arrest; possession of marijuana.

According to the indictment, sometime between Aug. 28-Sept. 2, 2014, Wade received, retained or disposed of a Hi Point 9mm handgun knowing it was stolen having a value of $500 or more but less than $10,000 while in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.

14-CR-247. Joseph D. Wade, 36, Bardstown, wanton endangerment, first-degree; criminal mischief, third-degree; violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO.

According to the indictment, on June 30, 2014, Wade allegedly violated a Kentucky protective order when he attempted to enter a woman’s vehicle while armed with a knife, causing damage totaling less than $500. Bail was set at $20,000 cash only, plus conditions.
