Obituary: Gladys Peyton, 97, Lexington
Gladys Peyton, 97, of Lexington, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at Tanbark Health Care in Lexington. She was the former Gladys Shields, a native of Spencer County, a retired school teacher for 40 years in Pontiac, Mich., and a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. She was born Oct. 24, 1916, to the late Tom and Christine Churchill Shields.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowery L. Peyton; two sisters, Evelyn Livisay and Tommye Newby; and one brother, Churchill Shields.
She is survived by two nephews, Charles Livisay Jr. of Lexington and Michael Livisay of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; a special niece, Shirley Livisay; and numerous cousins.
A graveside service is noon Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Campbranch Cemetery in Spencer County. There is no visitation.
The Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
