DONALD LEE ‘DON’ FILIATREAU

Donald Lee “Don” Filiatreau, 71, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 1, 1943, in Louisville to the late Nazare Augustus “N.A” Filiatreau and Mabel Osborne Patterson. He was a U.S Navy veteran, a retired state government Social Services employee, and an instructor at St. Catharine College from 1999-2014. He graduated in 1961 from St. Joseph Preparatory School in Bardstown, attended Brescia University and received his Masters from the University of Louisville. He was instrumental in starting the Nelson County Community Clinic and was a member of St. Joseph Church.

He was preceded in death by his aunts and uncles, Bessie and Jr. Medley, Spencer and Faye Osborne, Tom Osborne, Bob Osborne, Jimmy Osborne, Rosemary Baker, Joe O’Mory, Thomas (Theresa) Filiatreau, George and Theresa Filiatreau, J.P. & Sabrina Willet, Harold & Benita Filiatreau, Mabel & George Fulmer, Margie & Charles Boarders, Edna & Zan Hamilton.

He is survived by two sisters, Joan Hardin of Bardstown and Jane (Harry) Hurst of Lenexa, Kansas; one son, Jacob Christopher Filiatreau of Bardstown; two nieces, Amy (Keith) Arnold and Sarah (Nathan) Ballard; two nephews, Dan (Kristin) Hardin and Aaron Hardin; four great-nieces, Brooke Hardin, Reagan Arnold and Katy Jane Arnold, Natalie Ballard; two great-nephews, William Arnold and Matthew Hardin; aunts and uncles, Geneva and Francis Osborne of Owensboro, Will and Amanda Osborne of Bardstown, C.H. and Frances Haydon of Springfield, Shirley and Fabian Rogers of Bardstown, John and Therese Allen of Louisville, Louise and Paul Hicks of West Va., and Lucille Osborne of Springfield; many cousins and many other beloved family members.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Batcheldor will be the celebrant.

Visitation is 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Joseph Elementary School or the St. Catharine College Scholarship Fund.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
