Letter: Jeff Lear has served 4th District, county well as magistrate

To the Editor:

As a resident of the Fourth District here in Nelson County, I would like to say how much I appreciate my magistrate, Mr. Jeff Lear. He has always been letter-to-the-editorreadily accessible by phone, e-mail, and in person, and he truly takes the time to listen to his constituents.

Mr. Lear understands the joys and challenges faced by those of us who earn our living in the rural parts of Nelson County, as well as the complexities of making a living in the city — two wonderful attributes to have in a member of the fiscal court. As a business owner, husband, and father, Jeff understands what it means to create and stick to a budget. I have been especially appreciative of Jeff’s willingness to judiciously critique various proposals that have come before the fiscal court. Jeff applies careful deliberation when it comes to spending the county’s tax dollars, and is not afraid to question and explore funding issues.

Every Nelson County voter needs to check out the recorded candidate debates at www.plgtv.com to understand important issues here in the county and evaluate the candidates’ positions on these issues. In the Fourth District Magistrate debate, I was impressed by Mr. Lear’s clear, detailed, considerate answers to the questions posed by the panel. That is how Mr. Lear has been as my magistrate, too—straight-forward, sensible, and deciding on the issues with the best intentions of the Fourth District and Nelson County residents in mind. He has been open-minded and fair.

I am supporting Jeff Lear for re-election as the Fourth District magistrate, and I hope residents here in the Fourth District will, too. He is experienced and dedicated, and I am proud of the excellent job he has done as our magistrate.
