Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, 10:50 a.m. — Nelson Fiscal Court approved first reading of three zoning requests Tuesday during its second regular meeting this month.

The magistrates approved a request from Alvin King to rezone 2.496 acres on KY 245 from A-1 agriculutre to R-1A residential. The court also approved a request from Francis and Colleen Yates to rezone 1.358 acres on New Haven Road from A-1 to R-1A, and a request from Charles E. Piles Jr., Bonne Piles and Tony Hagan to rezone 26.956 acres in the Poplar Flat area from A-1 agriculture to R-1A residential.

All three zoning requests had earlier received the approval of the Joint City-County Planning Commission.

LANDFILL UPDATE.  Landfill Manager Brad Spalding updated the court on the progress of the construction of the new shop building at the Nelson County Landfill, and of the breakdown of one of a final drive in a landfill high-lift. The landfill’s operation won’t be impacted during the time needed to repair the high-lift, Spalding said.

ELECTION REMINDER.  Nelson County Clerk Elaine Filiatreau told the court that individuals who did not vote in the primary election should check to be certain their polling place has not changed prior to the Nov. 4 general election.

To determine if your polling location has changed, visit NelsonCountyClerk.com, click on the Voter Registration link. If you know your precinct, select your precinct; otherwise, click the “Road List” link, which will open a spreadsheet of county roads where you can use your street address to determine your polling location. Voters can also call the clerk’s office directly, (502) 348-1829.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 28. Absentee ballots must be returned by mail; hand delivery is not acceptable. For individuals who will be out of the county on Election Day, the absentee voting machine is available at the clerk’s office daily until Election Day.
