JANICE LEE NEWTON

Janice Lee Newton, 72, of Louisville, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. She was born Dec. 15, 1941, in St. Francis. She was a former homemaker and choir member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church. She loved traveling to see the ocean.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Susie Mae Mullins Mattingly; one sister, Delores Mae Mattingly; and two brothers, Rudolph Mattingly and Thomas Mattingly.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, John I. Newton; one daughter, Cindy Johnson (Walter) of Louisville; three sons, Bruce Newton (Rebecca Mae), John Newton and Steve Newton, all of Louisville; one brother, Kenneth Mattingly of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Mark Johnson, Russell Johnson, Joseph Newton and Taylor Newton; and two stepgrandchildren, Chris Dunn and Courtney Dunn.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, St. Francis, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, Louisville and 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Wednesday by Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of local arrangements.
