Letter: Hutchins is not the conservative in the judge executive race

To the editor,

I received the “Tim Hutchins for Nelson County Judge Executive” flier in the mail yesterday. After reading both sides of his flier, it is apparent that Mr. Hutchins is not quite “the only true conservative” in the race. As a matter of fact, I do not believe he is conservative at all.

letter-to-the-editorHe wants to get spending under control, i.e the $600,000 overtime pay, $300,000 subsidy for ambulance service, and $1,000,000 to subsidize the jail, to name a few of his examples which could definitely be argued about. But, hey, it sounds great! Get the department heads involved to cut spending. However, to suggest that it all can be just pulled away from each department willy-nilly and re-appropriated to more full time government employees, when growth of government is a bad thing (enforcing laws on the books and giving max sentencing instead of just time-out sentencing would be the first step before hiring more tax payer overhead), is definitely NOT conservative but more like being naive or, perhaps, ludicrous?

Also, thanks for letting us know that all registered Republicans and Independents can vote for you even though you are running as an Independent. Perhaps you should have included the fact that Democratic voters can as well. I would not have outright alienated them, since a large percentage of them are conservative. Remember, this fight, and most other political fights, is between Liberals (which you seem to be more aligned with) and Conservatives (one of which you are not). It is not so much Republican against Independent against Democrat.

There is one true conservative in the race for Judge Executive and that is Mr. Trzop. You, Mr. Hutchins, fall far short from that title.
