Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, 9:35 p.m. — At its first meeeting since the Nov. 4 election, the current Bardstown City Council was joined in the audience by the three incoming council members Fred Hagan, Bill Buckman and Kecia Copeland. The first order of business when Mayor Bill Sheckles open the meeting was to extend congratulations to the election winners.
CABLE CONTRACT AMENDED. The council approved amending a 2010 agreement with Standard Communications that extended its contract for PLG-TV and its insertion of ads on the city cable TV system by five years.
As written, the 2010 agreement did not correctly state the five-year extension was December 2013 through December 2018. The council voted unanimously to amend the original agreement to follow its original intent.
RESTAURANT REZONING. The council approved first reading on a rezoning request that will allow a new Mexican restaurant planned for the tract adjacent to the Lincoln National Bank to sell liquor by the drink. The restaurant will have sales areas both inside and outside the restaurant.
FIBER CONTRACT EXTENSION. The council was asked to consider a request to extend Team Fishel’s cable fiber construction contact to include several budgeted city cable TV projects. The reason city engineer Jeff Mills gave was savings — Fishel has agreed to extend its current unit pricing to the additional work, which offers savings of up to $12,000 over soliciting new bids for the projects.
After discussion, the council asked to table the request until more information can be gathered. The request will be revisited at an upcoming meeting.
In other action, the council:
— voted to appoint Theresa Maddox to the Bardstown Housing Authority board. Maddox will complete the unexpired term of Donald Beeler, which expires Feb. 15, 2015.
— voted to allow Chief Operating Officer Mike Abel sign an agreement with Communicare to administer the city’s substance abuse education grant money it receives from the Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy.
