Obituary: William Lee ‘Bill’ Uschan, 67, Frankfort

William Lee “Bill” Uschan, 67, of Frankfort, died peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 following a short illness in Appleton, Wisc.

fun_angelHe was born in Frankfort on March 4, 1947, to the late William and Pauline Kelly Uschan. He retired from the Department of Finance after 40 years of service. In 2013, he moved to Appleton to be close to his sister and brother. Even though he moved to Wisconsin, his heart was always in Kentucky with his two children. He cherished his two children and was a loving father.

He was an avid Amateur Radio Operator and held the callsign K4MIS. He was a long time member and former president of the Capital Amateur Society. He served in communications for KY Emergency Management at the state Emergency Operations Center at Boone Center. He supported Franklin County Emergency Management, the American Red Cross, and Skywarn ham radio operations. He was a member of the Frankfort Police Citizens and a member of Franklin County CERT. He served as the ARRL KY Section Manager for several years. He also participated in many local and state disasters and was active in many KY Emergency Management exercises until falling ill.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Matthew Uschan.

Survivors include one son, Jonathan Lee (Scarlett) of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Cynthia Anne of Richmond; and one sister, Rhonda of Appleton, Wisc.

The funeral Mass was Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Charles Howell officiating. Burial is in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
