JOHN B. SMITH

John B. Smith, 75, of Manton, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind. He was born Dec. 16, 1939, in Washington County. He was a former employee of the City of Springfield and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Manton. He loved country music and was one of the original members of the Manton Jamboree.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Barton Smith, Jr. and Margaret Stella Reed Smith; one sister, Evelyn Marie Smith; two brothers, Edward Leo Smith and Joseph “Herb” Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Reuben Taylor and Albertus Nally.

Survivors include two sisters, Catherine Taylor of Loretto and Betty Nally of Fredericktown; two brothers, Richard “Buddy” Smith (Charlotte) of Springfield and Bobby Smith (Alline) of Loretto; one sister-in-law, Susie Smith of Lebanon; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton, 6682 State Hwy 1183, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Matt Hardesty will officiate.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers are his nephews, Robbie Smith, Jimmy Taylor, David Taylor, Frankie Taylor, Kevin Nally and Eddie Smith.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
