11-year-old boy burned after gasoline can explodes at Springhill home

Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, 10 p.m. (revised Dec. 15, 2014) — An 11-year-old boy suffered first and second-degree burns on his hands and face Saturday night after a gasoline can he was holding exploded at a home in the Springhill subdivision.
The Bardstown Fire Department was called out at 8:13 p.m. for a report of a fire in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Scenic Drive. When firefighters arrived the fire was out and they located the injured boy. Nelson County EMS was called to scene to treat the victim’s injuries. The boy had first and second-degree burns on his forehead, face, chin and the fingers of both hands. The fire also singed his hair and eyelashes.
A medical helicopter met the EMS ambulance at Jewish South Medical Center in Shepherdsville. From there, the helicopter transported the victim on to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville for treatment.
The Bardstown Police Department assisted fire and EMS units at the scene.
