Obituary: James Ernest ‘Jimmy’ Hickman, 90, Bardstown

James Ernest “Jimmy” Hickman, 90, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Bardstown to the late McKinley “M.C” and Edna Mae Livers Hickman. He was a funeral_flowerretired employee of the Nelson County Board of Education where he served as a supervisor at Nelson County High School for 29 years where he was in charge of maintenance and custodial services. He was a former employee of Conway-Heaton Ford Chrysler Dealership for 14 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of St. Monica Catholic Church where he was active in working at the church. He was a former Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of American.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Gladys Hickman.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Weaver Hickman; one stepgranddaughter, Kena Stith (Robert) of Louisville; and one stepgrandson, Steve Samuels III (Erin) of Louisville.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at St. Monica Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeff Hopper as celebrant. Burial is in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown with a prayer service at 7 p.m. by Deacon Scott Turner.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
