Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, 11:28 a.m. — The state fire marshal and the Kentucky State Police have been asked to investigate a fire that damaged a Castleton Drive home in Wellington subdivision Friday morning. The Bardstown Fire Department’ on-scene incident commander requested the investigators’ help to determine the fire’s cause and origin.
Bardstown firefighters and Nelson County EMS were called out at 9:21 Friday morning for a fire in the laundry room of the home at 149 Castleton Drive. The home is owned by Pat and Alma Hagan and the Kentucky Standard reports the home was recently leased by Bardstown councilwoman-elect Kecia Copeland.
Firefighters made entry to the home through the garage door to access the laundry room. The fire was mostly contained to the dryer in the home’s utility room, but heavy smoke-filled the home. Firefighters entered the attic and removed the ceiling above the laundry area to determine if the fire had spread. Crews working in the attic had to deal with limited visibility due to the heavy amount of smoke. Firefighters also used thermal imaging cameras to determine if the fire had spread to a wall or other hidden area.
Firefighters were still on the fire scene as this report was written.
