Obituary: Georgia Ann ‘Georgiann’ Shelton Girton, formerly of Bardstown
Georgia Ann “Georgiann” Shelton Girton, formerly of Bardstown, died at 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at her son’s home in Howard County, Maryland. She had lived in Maryland for a little more than two years. Previously she lived in Bardstown and was a retired employee of the Lilly-Tulip paper cup factory. She also worked many years for the Sisters of Charity at Nazareth. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church since the church was established and served several times on the parish council.
She was the daughter of the late Augustine “Gus” and Bertha Bivens. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth “Kent” Girton; her parents; four sisters, Sarah Cecilia Phillips, Catherine Scott, Mary Alice Watson, and Florence Bivens; and five brothers, William “Bud” Bivens, Joseph “Brother” Bivens and three that died at birth.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Shelton (Michelle) of Marriottsville, Md. and Bill Shelton (Darlene) of Suitland, Md.; three stepdaughters, Elizabeth “Libby” Williams of Takoma, Wash., Nina Carter (Charles) of Frankfort and Rhonda Churchill of Bardstown; her only remaining sibling, Margaret “Gin” Reed of Louisville; one sister-in-law, Ella Mae Bivens of Bardstown; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at St. Monica Catholic Church, 407 S. Third Street in Bardstown with the Rev. Jeff Hopper officiating.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service 7 p.m. Friday.
