Obituary: Samuel Donald ‘Sam’ Knopp, 88, Finley

SAMUEL DAVID ‘SAM’ KNOPP

Samuel Donald “Sam” Knopp, 88, of Finley, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at University Hospital in Louisville with his loving wife of 68 years by his side. He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Marion County. He was a member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Finley and retired from Grow Green. He was a fun-loving family man who brightened any room he entered. He passed on the love of God and family through five generations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Paul and Ethel Stella Bright Knopp; one daughter, Mary Deloris Knopp; four sisters, Paula Raikes, Agnes Bischoff, Silvia Caldwell and Thelma Curtis; one brother, Edward Knopp; and one grandson, Michael Brent Spalding.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Elizabeth Livers Knopp of Finley; seven daughters, Laverne (Mac) Warren and Lucy (Joe) Spalding, both of Springfield, Geraldine (Lonnie) Moore, Carolyn (James) Brown, Mar Sue (John Wayne) Thomas, and Renee (Kevin) Lee, all of Finley, and Benita (Terry) Langley of Lebanon; nine sons, Tommy (Lea) Knopp of Lebanon, Vincent Knopp of Springfield, Michael (Terri) Knopp, Richard (Sharon) Knopp, Donald (Karen) Knopp, Wayne (Martha) Knopp, George (Tammy) Knopp, Phillip (Melissa) Knopp and Rodney Knopp, all of Finley; two sisters, Frances Gordon of Finley and Mae Morgeson of Lebanon; one brother, Thelbert Knopp of Calvary; 47 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Finley with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 and 8-11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church.

The Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon is in charge of arrangements.
