Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, 11:45 a.m. — E-911 Dispatch Director Debbie Carter told Nelson Fiscal Court Tuesday morning about a new emergency notification service the dispatch center will be launching later this month called CodeRED.

CodeRED is a free service that will allow subscribers to receive weather warnings and other local safety alerts on their mobile or home phone by text message or voice phone call.

CodeRED is a product similar to CallOne currently used by local school systems. CodeRED is currently deployed in dozens of communities in Kentucky and around the country. Telephone users must subscribe to receive the alerts, which can include Amber Alerts, weather warnings, boil water advisories, road closures and more. There is no charge to subscribe or receive the alerts.

The official launch of CodeRED in Nelson County is Tuesday, Jan. 20. Look for more information about CodeRED’s launch here on the Nelson County Gazette and WBRT Radio/ BRTV
