SEN. JIMMY HIGDON

Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 — Greetings from Frankfort. After a busy and very productive first week of the session, we are in adjournment until Feb. 3. Yet, we still have much work to do. The last date for new bills is Feb. 13 and that means that we are working to see what legislation needs priority and how to move forward efficiently. I have been traveling to Frankfort and meeting with the other leaders to prepare.

I am also taking advantage of these open weeks to travel throughout the district and meet with you, along with some of my colleagues that serve in the House. Monday, I held a legislative coffee with Representative Tipton in Spencer County. Wednesday, Representative Mills and I were in Marion County, Thursday, I visited Casey County with Representative Harmon, and I rounded out the week in Friday with Representative Floyd in Nelson County. I appreciate those of you who were able to make it to these coffees. The input and discussion I receive at these events are invaluable to my work here in Frankfort. If you were unable to make it out, I encourage you to call me with your comments and concerns at 270-692-6945.

In addition to the coffees, I have enjoyed time with students at several schools throughout the district, presenting information and teaching about our legislative process. Many of the Representatives have joined me. It is refreshing to be with the young people and talk about our government and the way we all can participate in it.

Also this week, we remember the work and sacrifice of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A unique leader, he showed the way to lead millions in a peaceful manner to achieve equality for all.

I am always interested in your comments or questions. Please feel free to contact me by calling and leaving a message at the toll-free message line for legislators, 1-800-372-7181. Also, you are welcome to call me at my home, 270-692-6945. My e-mail address is jimmy.higdon@lrc.ky.gov.

Editor’s Note: Senator Jimmy Higdon (R-Lebanon) represents the 14th District including Casey, Marion, Nelson and Spencer counties, as well as part of Jefferson County. He is the Majority Whip and a member of the Economic Development and Labor, Education, Health and Welfare, Licensing and Occupations, and Transportation Committees.
