Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, 2 p.m. — The unexpected snow accumulation that blanketed Nelson County Friday afternoon kept the county’s first-responders busy dealing with the aftermath of the hazardous roadways.
According to Nelson County Dispatch logs, law enforcement agencies responded to 41 motor vehicle accidents between 3 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday, the majority of which were non-injury accidents.
Accidents and poor road conditions shut down KY 245 in Bullitt County for several hours. Off-duty Bardstown Police officers and Nelson County deputies returning from training assisted motors on High Grovel hill near the Nelson-Spencer County line. The roadway was closed to traffic for some time until salt trucks could treat the road surface.
Warmer temperatures Saturday morning predicted to near 40 degrees, main roadways are reported clear and backroads may still have areas that are slick and hazardous for a time.
The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures will remain above freezing Saturday night, with a 60 percent change of rain showers Sunday.
