Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, 9:30 a.m. — Matt Bevin, the former Republican candidate in the Kentucky primary for U.S. Senate, will file this afternoon to run for a yet unspecified statewide office.
Bevin intends to file his candidacy paperwork at 2 p.m. in Frankfort.
Bevin acknowledge he had considered running in the Republican primary for governor this year, but the GOP primary already includes Louisville real estate developer Hal Heiner, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer and former state Supreme Court Justice Will T. Scott.
Some speculate Bevin may challenge incumbent Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grime’s re-election bid. Grimes announced Monday she was going to pursue a second term rather than file for another statewide office.
Two Republicans have already filed in the Secretary of State race — former Erlanger city councilman Steve Knipper and Louisville resident Michael Pitzer. Charles Lovett of Louisville filed Monday as a Democratic primary candidate for Secretary of State.
