Man leads police on high-speed pursuit through downtown Bardstown

Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, 7 p.m. (Updated 9:20 p.m.) — A Bardstown man faces a number of charges following a high-speed chase that began on KY 245 in Bardstown after he fled from police who attempted a traffic stop, and ended when his car struck a utility pole north of town.

At about 5 p.m. Sunday, police were responding to a criminal mischief and assault complaint at a home in the area of Presidential Estates subdivision. The man allegedly involved in an assault reportedly fled the area in a white Chevrolet Cavalier. An officer in the area heard the vehicle description, spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver failed to stop and then began driving recklessly south on KY 245. At the intersection of KY 245 and Springfield Road, the vehicle turned west toward downtown Bardstown as additional officers joined the pursuit.

At the Court Square, the vehicle turned to continued north through downtown Bardstown via Third Street. Witnesses said he ran the traffic light at North Third and KY 245 and continued north with police in pursuit. The vehicle left the city limits heading north until it crashed into a utility pole and rolled over near the intersection of Wetherby Avenue and Louisville Road.

Nelson County EMS responded to transport the man to Flaget Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The Bardstown Police Department assisted the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office in the pursuit.

The driver was taken by police from the Flaget Memorial Hospital emergency room to the Nelson County Jail at 9:25 p.m.
