Letter: Proposed minimum wage bill unfair to our hardest-working workers

To the editor,

Imagine you are an hourly worker and have been struggling heroically for years to increase your pay to get ahead.

letter-to-the-editorThen all of a sudden, all that hard, conscientious work means nothing because someone convinces the legislators to pass into law a minimum wage of $10.10 per hour (Senate Bill 2) for everybody.

This means that even those with no effort or years of toil, who are making, say, $10.05 per hour, automatically enjoy legislator-mandated $10.10 per hour with no corresponding years of hard work and diligence at all to get to that point!

That means that those with no work and determination would get the same rewards as those with years of faithful effort and determination. How unfair can you make it?

Let’s not bulldoze over those who have worked hard in favor of those who haven’t.

This is the United States of America, and our founders would be aghast at such an unthinkable travesty. Additionally, there would be unintended consequences like:

1). gross unfairness to current workers at $10 an hour due to hard work and perseverance;

2). increased costs passed on to the consumers;

3). reduced workforce in order to comply with increased wages;

4). more poverty, more welfare, more dependency;

5). more vote-buying;

6). furthering the economic destruction of our nation.
