Obituary: Ernest Metcalf, 78, Bardstown

Ernest Metcalf, 78, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Life Care Center of Bardstown. He was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Bardstown. He was an veteran of the U.S. Army, a machinist for Brown & funeral_angelWilliamson and a farmer. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and a member of V.F.W. Post 121.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Blanche Metcalf; one sister, Olie Mae Metcalf; and three brothers, Malcolm Metcalf, Amuel Metcalf and Houston Metcalf.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Metcalf of Bardstown; six children, Paulette Metcalf, Kim Durall and Gayle Graves, all of Bardstown, Dana (Candy) Metcalf of Elizabethtown, Crystal Padgett of Lebanon, and Melanie Thompson of Loretto; one sister, Mary Belle Shaffer of Louisville; two brothers, Jerry Metcalf and Norbert Metcalf, both of Louisville; 3 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several niece and nephews.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Hopper will officiate.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, and 8-9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions may go to Masses.

The Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
