Woman dies after falling into a well at Cox’s Creek area home

Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 (Corrected 4:45 p.m.) — A woman believed to be in her 40s drowned Monday when she fell into a well at a home on Whitesides Road.

Nelson County EMS, Bardstown Fire, the Northeast Nelson Fire Department and police were dispatched at to a home in the 1800 block of Whitesides Road at 3:06 p.m. for a report of a woman believed to have fallen into a well.

Poor road conditions hampered first-responders initial response; firefighters used four-wheel drive trucks to access the driveway and the home, which was located several hundred feet off the main road. Firefighters described the well as 16 feet deep with approximately 14 feet of water. First-responders worked to access the well and located the victim. At press time the Nelson County Coroner was enroute to the scene.
