Obituary: Marlee Crowe, 90, Bardstown
Marlee Crowe, 90, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, in Louisville. She was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Louisville to the late Lee and Margaret Robinson Johnson.
She graduated from Wilberforce University in 1947 with a BS in Education and received her Masters in Education from the University of Louisville. She was an avid UofL fan of all their sports teams. She began her teaching career briefly teaching math in Ohio, the worked for the government for four years. She returned to the teaching profession and taught 10 years in Jefferson County before coming to Nelson County and teaching for 20 years at Eli Brown Elementary School as a special education teacher until her retirement. She belonged to several organizations keeping her involved in community service such as the Meritoriettes social/civic club in Louisville for 55 years, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Nelson County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, where she served as a lecturer and Eucharistic minister. She and her late husband, Leland Crowe, founded the former St. Monica Credit Union and she served as the secretary for many years.
She is survived by one daughter, Marland (Bryan) Cole of Louisville; and one granddaughter, Mia Cole of Louisville.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at St. Monica Catholic Church with burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Hopper officiating.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service Friday evening, and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.
