Weather prompts county to announce 1 week delay of bulky item pickup

Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, 10:40 a.m. — The start of the country’s bulky item pickup has been postponed one Bulky-Item-2015week due to the recent weather conditions.

The first phase of bulky item pickup was to begin on Monday, Feb. 23 in for areas east of US31E north of Bardstown and KY 49 south of Bardstown to the county lines. This includes the Chaplin, Woodlawn and Botland, and the areas outside of the city limits of Bardstown and Bloomfield. Pickup in this area will now start on Monday, March 2.

The second phase will begin Monday, March 16, for the southwestern parts of the county that are south of the Bluegrass Parkway and west of KY 49. This includes Balltown, Culvertown, New Hope, Howardstown, Icetown, Nelsonville, Culvertown and Stiles, and the areas outside the New Haven city limits.

The final phase of bulky item collection begins Monday, March 30 for all areas west of Louisville Road and north of the Bluegrass Parkway. This includes Lenore, Samuels, Deatsville, Henpeck and Boston.

GUIDELINES. This collection is for residential use only and is not intended for business use.

  1. 1. Place only bulky items out for this collection; no household garbage.
  2. Place all items by the roadside by 7:30 a.m. on the Monday collection begins in your area. Collection will only take place once on each road.
  3. Place tires away from other items. There is an 8 passenger tire limit per household.
  4. Place appliances and metal together.
  5. Place batteries next to tires.
  6. Paints and liquids will not be picked up.
  7. Wood or brush will not be picked up.

Households that exceed the 8 passenger tire limit will be billed a $2 per tire fee. Commercial/trucking tires will be billed a $5 fee per tire. Ag and construction tires will be billed at $8 per cubic yard with an additional fee of $1.75 per ton (example: A tractor tire 5 feet tall will costs $9 to $12).
