Obituary: Mary Ellen Lanham Metcalf, 88, New Haven

MARY ELLEN LANHAM METCALF

Mary Ellen Lanham Metcalf, 88, of New Haven, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Jewish Hospital surrounded by her family. She was a Catholic by faith, and a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church. She worked in the nursing home industry for 25 years before her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles E. Lanham and Anna Pearl Scamahorne Ice; her husband, Joseph Paul Metcalf; an infant daughter, Mary Ann Metcalf; and an infant son, Joseph Allen Metcalf.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Newton (John) of New Haven and Janet “Jan” Borders (Jay) of Clarkson; one son, Dan Metcalf (Edna) of New Haven; one-brother, Daniel Odell Ice (Marlona) of Bardstown; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Troy Overton officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is noon-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 and 8-10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven. A prayer service is 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
