Obituary: Kathryn Hunter Wycoff, 103, Bardstown
Kathryn Hunter Wycoff, 103, of Bardstown, died Monday Feb. 23, 2015, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was born May 25, 1911, in Leitchfield. She served as President of the St. Joseph Altar Society, served as a Eucharistic Minister and as a sacristan. She was President of the Bethlehem PTA from 1948 to 1956. She co-chaired the 1962-1964 restoration of St. Joseph Cathedral, was a religious chairman of the Bardstown Bi-Centennial, was a member of the Advisory Council of the Churches and was a delegate to the Kentucky Council of Churches. For a time, she was employed as a statistician in the State Veterinarian’s Office and was curator and manager of Old Kentucky Home State Park. She was also a Tourist Promotion Specialist in the Kentucky Department of Public Information.
Her long list of accomplishments in the political field include being a member of the Democratic State Central Executive Committee, President of the Nelson County Democrat Club, Vice-President and district director of the Kentucky Democrat Women’s Club, was the Nelson County Women’s Chairman for two gubernatorial races and co-chaired another and served two terms on the Mayor’s advisory committee.
She organized all of Nelson County for the first March of Dimes campaign, was a member of the first board of Elizabethtown Community College, was a director of North Central Kentucky Education Corporation and was a member of the Kentucky Heritage Council serving as chairman of the anthropology committee. She was a Past Executive Director of the Bardstown-Nelson County Chamber of Commerce and in conjunction with My Old Kentucky Home, opened Wickland for tours. She was a charter member of Old Kentucky Home Country Club, a member of the Stephen Foster Music Club and a member of the advisory council of the Stephen Foster Drama Association. She was also an avid golfer having won the Women’s Division of the Kentucky State Park Employees.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph McIlvoy Wycoff; her parents, Lucian O. and Virginia Monica Meredith Hunter; three brothers, Charles Edward Hunter, John Allen Hunter and Lucian O. Hunter Jr.; and three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Hay, Nell Cannon Hay and infant Jane Hill Hunter.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Addison Wycoff (Anne Talbott Wycoff) and John Hunter Wycoff, both of Bardstown; one sister, Jane Hunter Hain of Louisville; one brother, James Crady Hunter of Morgantown; three nephews, Hunter Hay and Kenner Hay, both of Frankfort and Jakie Hay of Turners Station; and one niece, Meredith Hay Mucci of Midway.
The Memorial Mass is 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial at a later date in the Springfield Cemetery. The Revs. William F. Hammer, C. Joseph Batcheldor and David Carr will con-celebrate.
Visitation is 10:30-11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at the church prior to the Memorial Mass.
The family requests that memorial contributions go to St. Catharine College or the St. Joseph Building Fund.
