County declares state of emergency; Thursday garbage collection canceled

Thursday, March 5, 2015, 10 a.m. — A state of emergency has been declared for Nelson County by Judge Executive Dean Watts.
The declaration allows county government to bypass some formalities normally required to execute contracts, purchase materials, rent equipment or other goods or services needed to cope with the snow emergency.
Bardstown City Hall is closed Thursday; city utility crews are on standby to responds to any weather-related issues. Mayor John Royalty has asked residents to limit their travel while city crews work to remove snow from city streets.
GARBAGE. Garbage collection Thursday in both the city and county has been canceled as local governments focus on clearing roads of snow and ice. Thursday’s garbage collection in the county will be picked up next week.
