Obituary: Beatrice Johnson Rogers, 83, Bardstown

Beatrice Johnson Rogers, 83, of Bardstown, died Thursday, March 12, 2015, at her home. She was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Bardstown. She was a member of St. John’s A.M.E. Zion Church, president of Stewardess Board and Past Director of Christian Education Department.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Hawkins; her second husband, Louis “Hawk” A. Rogers, Jr.; one son, William Louis Rogers; her parents, Susie Kate Hurt and Benjamin Harrison Johnson; and 11 siblings, Mamie Hayes, William Edward Johnson (Will Ed), Anna Margaret Bivens, Mary Erma Johnson, Rainey Johnson, Ruth Joy Woodson, Anna Elizabeth Mason (Jack), Ida Mildred “Chick” Dowdell, Lee Thomas Johnson (Turk), Benjamin Harrison Johnson, Aaron Johnson and Marian Johnson.

She is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Wilson Williams of Tacoma, Wash., Gwenn Rogers Key and Austine Virginia Rogers, both of Bardstown, and Rita Yvonne Phillips (Joe Lee) of Louisville; four sons, Gregory “Spoony” Rogers, William Forsee Rogers (Wiljam) and Bryan Ramon Rogers, all of Bardstown, and David Jerome “Hank” Rogers (Marilyn) of Elizabethtown; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and her extended family including the late Thompson and Virginia Willett and their children, Mary Fisher, Tommy Willett (deceased), Martha Kulsveen, John David Willett, Susan Dawson, Richard Willett and Alice Heaton.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at St. John’s A.M.E. Zion Church with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery with the Rev. Olacy Evans officiating.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2015, and 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to St. John’s A.M.E. Zion Church.

The Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
