Bloomfield man arrested by police after home invasion investigation

Friday, March 13, 2014, 3:34 p.m. — A Bloomfield area man was arrested on robbery and assault charges early Friday morning following an investigation by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office of a home invasion and armed robbery at a residence in the 900 block of Hubbards Lane.
Demetrious D. Watkins, 37, was arrested and charged with robbery, first-degree, two counts of assault, second-degree and wanton endangerment.
According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, early Friday morning Watkins allegedly forced his way into a home on Hubbards Lane armed with a knife. A struggle ensued and two residents received minor injuries. The suspect also grabbed a small child who was unharmed.
Watkins fled the home in a 2002 Monte Carlo driven by a woman. A deputy sheriff recognized the vehicle description and located the vehicle parked at a home on Atlantic Court. Police arrested Watkins at the home and he was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed.
